Naval Defense Conference

Naval Defense Conference
The 2010 Offshore Patrol and Security Conference has been launched by The Development Network (TDN). It will take place at the Royal Naval Dockyard, Portsmouth, from 19 April to 21 April 2010.

Nathan Martin, Managing Director of TDN, said: “We are delighted to be holding the event in Portsmouth’s Dockyard, the home of the Royal Navy. The conference will be an exciting, interactive opportunity for both developers and purchasers.”

The offshore security industry is booming due to the upsurge in international piracy, coupled with recent developments in South America, Australia and Asia and a desire for smaller ships because of the global economic situation. The conference will bring the world’s leading developers of Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs) together with delegates ranging from Rear Admirals of established navies to coastguards from emerging markets.

The first day of the event will be a technology focus day, intended for the new technologies community. It will be chaired by Jon Rosamond, editor of Jane’s Navy, and will include information on the creation of indigenous OPVs in new markets. A waterborne exhibition will run concurrently with the conference, allowing attendees to test Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) and other interceptors in the waters surrounding the venue.

The conference chair has been confirmed as Vice Admiral Sir Jeremy Blackham KCB. Presentations will be given by Dr David Sloggett, Chris Trelawney (from the International Maritime Organisation) as well as speakers from South African, Brazilian, Dutch, Chilean, Vietnamese, Finnish and Singaporean navies and border protection agencies.

Mr Martin said: “In today’s world the need to combat piracy, terrorism and drug trafficking means that there is a huge range of opportunities for makers of OPVs, Interceptors and navigation systems. This conference is not to be missed.”

A group of prestigious sponsor parties including Danish Yachts have already signed up to the event and there are more opportunities for individual partners.
